Yesterday I embarked upon the two new exhibits at the Seattle Art Museum; Kurt Cobain and Andy Warhol: love fear pleasure lust pain glamour death.
Despite some very sincere works influenced by the late singer, I found the Kurt Cobain exhibit lacking depth. It seems no effort was made to deliver any fresh interpretations of Cobain’s influence on the world of art/ music.
Andy Warhol’s media works, for the most were little photo booth strips everywhere. I particularly enjoyed Warhol’s sewn photographs and Screen Tests projected largely on both sides of a short corridor. The screen test of Edie Sedgwick was actually magnetic. Edie’s presence encompassed an approachable vulnerability, gentle confusion, and shaky , bewildered confidence. Warhol was a master at capturing the allure of a fame seeking youth; loathing and rejoicing in their own hypothesized celebrity.
